For the second time, we are granted the huge honor to host the Queer Space at Landjuweel 2025 @ Ruigoord. This time we're going bigger and bolder than ever!
Why do we love Landjuweel?
Landjuweel is the oldest festival of Amsterdam. Since 1975, creative creatures gather at the mesmerizing Ruigoord village for a four-day artistic outburst of music, performances, workshops, art and expression. Expect an endless cacophony of acrobats, poets, singers, magicians and musicians. No surprise that renowned festivals like Burning Man, Boom festival, De Parade, and Oerol have all emerged out of Landjuweel!
The highlight of the festival is the Beeldenroute art walk, traditionally held every Saturday night. On this psychedelic procession, visitors walk over the dyke to find radiant sculpures & creatures lighting up the Ruigoord sky.
Our special connection to Ruigoord emerged when we befriended Carlo, who has an atelier at Ruigoord and built the Queer Space from the ground up. And while Ruigoord is a place where many outcasts and vagabonds find belonging, we wholeheartedly agree with Carlo that Ruigoord desperately needs a bigger queer presence!
So that's where we come in. With playful & radical self-expression, we challenge and fight back the increasing repression threatening queer people all over the world. Through an overflow of co-creation, we invite visitors to question gender, sexuality, and how they express love and to embrace queerness as a mindset.
With this vision, we’re excited to make Landjuweel more queer than ever before! ✨
Our plans for Landjuweel 2025
This year the KALEIDO programme in and around the Queer Space will feature performances, workshops, DJ's, visual art, the KALEIDO BAR and a co-created performance ritual in the Beeldenroute art walk. The space is inclusive and open to everyone, including children during the daytime. Each day will center around a different theme, celebrating the rebellious queer spirit in absurd, theatrical ways.
Performances
Performances are always at the heart of the Queer Space! This year, we'll play with a different theme on Friday & Saturday. The themes are as follows:
Friday: The Galactic Gospel of the Alien Messiah
After a successful investigation into the bizarre life form known as “homo sapiens,” the Aliens have returned. Earth has been chosen as the home of the Alien Messiah, JESALIEN, who will guide us toward utopia. None other than the Supreme Ruler of the Universe, RuPalien, has descended to perform this sacred ritual. Alongside her loyal followers, she has landed at Landjuweel—pregnant with JESALIEN. But… who will raise this child of cosmic wisdom?
Saturday: NORMAGEDDON
Beyond the borders of Ruigoord, the APOCALYPSE has begun! The NORMAVIRUS has spread mercilessly across the globe. The infected, known as Normos, are doing their utmost to ruin the world further with their monotonous normativity. Join Dr. Frank-N-Furter and the rebel army to stop the NORMAVIRUS. But only those who embrace their uniqueness will survive the apocalypse…
Sunday: Embrace your No-Talent
On the last day we embrace the power of improvisation. We invite young & old on stage to perform something they have never done before.
Our creative director Casper is overseeing the overlapping story of the crazy and troublesome events that are happening on stage this year.
Workshops
A crucial element of the Queer Space vision this year is creating a space for quirky workshops and expansive experiences. In contrast to the accessible and playful performances on stage, the workshops offer a deeper layer to the journey of self-exploration that lies at the heart of the Queer Space. Our workshops are open to anyone curious to (further) explore queerness within themselves. Ruud is coordinating the workshop programme.
DJ'ing
The Queer Space is all about celebration and connection through severe dancing. That’s why, before and after performances, we're going to generate queer vibes where joyful tunes lure wandering visitors to our lair.
During the day, expect psychill and cozy disco vibes. At dusk, the mood will shift to a blend of global grooves, femme pop, and electro bangers.
Exhibitions
In the reeds surrounding the Queer Space, several artists will exhibit their work. During the day, small gnomes or aliens may appear in the reeds, accompanied by a curious little tune. At night, this art will transform into a psychedelic glittering scene with lighting and a disco ball.
Building up the space before the festival
To have the Queer Space ready for our crazy plans, there already is a sparkling buildup team! Would you like to join us sawing, painting, drilling, sanding, and beautifying the place on a sunny Saturday or Sunday? No previous experience required AT ALL. We're also just improvising and learning along the way. We're a No-Talent collective anyway. Just channel your inner butch on those power tools darling 💗 Contact our buildup queen Sven to be invited to the buildup days, free of any expectations.
